History of the Credit Union

NASCOGA (National Supply Co. Gainesville) FCU was chartered on May 15, 1956. There were ten charter members who each paid five dollars for a share in the organization. In the beginning, the office of the credit union was in a small corner at the plant itself. It was opened only a few hours each week and was manned by volunteers.

In 1975, NASCOGA had outgrown the space in the National plant. The Board of Directors decided to rent an office in the Plaza 82 building. The credit union had reached $1 million in assets. In 1981, the credit union had approximately 1700 members and was hand posting all transactions. The Board contracted with EDS to purchase a computer system to handle member transactions and payroll deduction.

Because of layoffs at National Supply in 1983-84, the credit union decided to expand its field of membership. Poly Pipe was asked to join the Nascoga field of membership. Since then over 25 companies have joined the credit union as a select employee group.

In 1987, NASCOGA merged with the SPACE Credit Union. By 1990 the credit union had outgrown the Plaza 82 office building and the Board was considering adding checking accounts. In April of 1991 the move was made to O’Neal Street. Assets had reached $5 million. Over the next five years the credit union continued to grow and serve more members. Assets had increased to $10 million. The Board decided to build a new facility. In December of 1996 the move was made to Lawrence Street.

The Credit Union continues to grow and serve more members. With the approval of the Community Charter in 1998 the field of membership was opened to anyone who lives or works in Cooke County. In 2004 the Board of Directors realized that the Credit Union had once again outgrown it's office space. In November 2005, a new addition was completed and officially opened. The new addition includes a new conference room, three new loan offices, closing room for mortgage loans, and a separate lobby area for loan customers. The Board of Directors is always looking for ways to enhance or add new services.
